Man Crush Alert: I love Robert Downey, Jr.

Guy Ritchie’s Sherlock Holmes is a muddy, muddled mess, but RDJ is infinitely watchable as any character, so it’s no surprise that he’s a winner as the English super sleuth. Jude Law turns in his least annoying performance in years, Watson and together their repartee and rapport cover a multitude of cinematic sins.

The “sins” include British accents so thick I didn’t catch half the dialog (a Guy Ritchie trademark I usually enjoy), a occult-centered plot, and a sadly miscast Rachel McAdams as Holmes’s love interest. They bring things back into the realm of the normal in the end, but the journey is a little taxing.

The story is more or less secondary to the action and wit of Holmes, so just know that Bad Guy is killing people and wants to kill more.

If you liked Iron Man – and I hope you did – I recommend Sherlock Holmes to you very very heartily.
